Helen Roberts HeadshotHelen Roberts has been a part of No Kid Hungry NC since its inception in 2011 under Governor Bev Perdue. Prior to working with No Kid Hungry NC, she taught physics for 35 years at Broughton High School in Raleigh. In the first two years of her work with No Kid Hungry NC, Helen observed school breakfast programs in more than 60 schools across North Carolina using innovative methods of serving school breakfast and has visited countless more since then to provide technical assistance. She began the NC School Breakfast Challenge in 2013, an annual recognition of the schools with the greatest increase in school breakfast participation. The Challenge recently completed its fifth year, and has grown to automatically include all 115 public school districts in the state. Share Our Strength (founding organization of the No Kid Hungry Campaign) has called on Helen to share her experience on a national level through live radio broadcasts and promotional videos. Throughout all of this work, Helen has developed and continues to strengthen relationships with nutrition directors in every public school district in the state.
