Cathy Melvin’s recent research focuses on improving dissemination of evidence-based health and health care interventions and policies, particularly those related to tobacco and cancer prevention and control. Other research interests include the translation of research into practice, mechanisms for achieving health systems change, the application of quality improvement approaches to systems change, the determination of factors likely to increase the adoption and use of evidence-based interventions, and tools for compiling and communicating evidence. Dr. Melvin serves as principal investigator of the Comprehensive Cancer Control Collaborative of North Carolina (4CNC) at the Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention.
In addition to her other appointments, Dr. Melvin serves as faculty director of the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center Dissemination Core (DisC), and director of the NC TraCS Institute Clinical and Community Translation Core.
Dr. Melvin holds a masters degree in public health and a PhD in geography from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
