Crystal Cene’s research interests include health disparities related to chronic diseases, in particular, cardiovascular disease, social and environmental factors that impact health behaviors and outcomes, and community-based participatory research.

Dr. Cene holds a medical degree from the Brody School of Medicine, East Carolina University, and a master’s degree in public health from Johns Hopkins University. She recently completed a clinical research fellowship at Johns Hopkins University before joining the faculty in the School of Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

In 2005, Dr. Cene received the Gary V. Ralph “Humanism in Medicine” Award. She was a finalist for the Mack Lipkin Sr. Associate Member Award of the Society of General Internal Medicine in 2007.
