Dr. Brooks’ research focuses on the examination of psychological factors (e.g., maternal depressive symptoms) and psychosocial aspects (e.g., involvement of extended family) of family management of childhood asthma and health outcomes in American Indian children.

Dr. Brooks received her doctorate in nursing from Duke University. She has a MSPH in epidemiology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a BSN from Duke University, and a BS in Biology and Chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke.

Dr. Brooks is currently a T32 Postdoctoral Fellow/Trainee in the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Nursing Research Training Program for Interventions to Prevent/Manage Chronic Illness.
