The application period for summer 2020 volunteers will open March 1.
The HPDP volunteer program aims to provide a limited number of students from UNC-Chapel Hill, other universities and community members with practical experience working in public health research. HPDP is engaged in interdisciplinary research, and volunteers may be able to work on projects in areas such as women’s health; prevention of chronic diseases; worksite health; healthy aging; obesity prevention and control; and sustainable food systems.
While working at HPDP, volunteers will be supervised by a HPDP faculty or staff member. Specific volunteer responsibilities will vary by project, yet all volunteers will have the opportunity to participate in applied research to test new ways to confront the most pressing health problems facing our society.
Application Deadline and Volunteering Timeline
We welcome applications from undergraduate and graduate students, as well as non-students. All applications will be reviewed by a committee but not all will be matched with a volunteer opportunity due to changes in project needs from year to year. Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer will need to fill out an application by the appropriate deadline listed in the table below. Volunteer appointments are available for the fall and spring semesters, and in the summer. While candidates can be considered for a volunteer position lasting for one semester, most projects are best suited for individuals who can volunteer for the whole year.
