UNC’s Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention (HPDP) recently launched Research4NC. This new website centralizes health promotion and disease prevention programs and resources that UNC researchers developed in collaboration with their public health and community partners. The website provides North Carolina’s public health workforce with easy access to resources they can use to tackle problems such as obesity, diabetes, cancer, heart disease, tobacco and substance use, injury and violence and environmental risks to health. Funding for the website came from the office of the Associate Vice Chancellor for Research at UNC-CH.
“Faculty working at UNC’s research centers and institutes regularly make discoveries that can improve the care patients receive, but these don’t always filter down to the people on the front lines of public health,” said Barbara Entwisle, Vice Chancellor for Research at UNC Chapel Hill. “At UNC-Chapel Hill, we’re here to serve the people of North Carolina, and this new tool will make it easier for our care providers to put the results of our latest research into practice.”
Research4NC is led by Jennifer Leeman, professor in the UNC School of Nursing and director of the Communication and Dissemination Core at the UNC Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention.
”Researchers in the UNC system are discovering better ways to prevent disease and promote health,” said Leeman. “These studies often focus on North Carolina communities and populations, but North Carolina health care workers may have had difficulty locating pertinent findings until now. The Research4NC website is the first of its kind to centralize UNC-developed resources that can be easily accessed and applied to improve practice.”
Descriptions of the available resources are included on the new website together with links to specific studies supporting their successful use and to a variety of easily downloadable materials.
