The Children’s Healthy Weight Research (CHWR) group was fortunate to host a visit from Dr. Serene Yoong, a post-doctoral research fellow from the School of Medicine and Public Health at The University of Newcastle, Australia. Dr. Yoong is a behavioral scientist and a practicing dietitian. Her research focuses on practice-based translational research and supporting community and health service organizations to help prevent obesity and other chronic disease risk factors. She works to identify effective interventions in various community settings, one being child care centers. Her interests intersect with the work that is done by the CHWR group and others at the Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention (HPDP). Her week-long visit, from March 14th-March 22nd, was a beneficial opportunity to collaborate on ongoing projects and to brainstorm concepts for future research. To welcome Dr. Yoong, HPDP hosted a luncheon on March 15th. Dr. Yoong was also able to meet with multiple HPDP staff, attend research meetings, and attend on-campus presentations.
