The Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention stands in strong support of the letter from Mimi Chapman, Chair of the Faculty at UNC-Chapel Hill, who wrote that “the faculty voice must govern the tenure process for academic integrity to have meaning.” We petition the UNC Board of Trustees to review and approve the appointment of Nikole Hannah-Jones to a tenured faculty position at UNC without further delay. It is time to begin repairing the damage created by the handling of this situation, and we look to the Board of Trustees to protect the academic freedom of our University.
