Project Title

Decision Aid to Enhance Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) Risk Factor Modification

Funding Dates

1/2005-7/2010

Description

Heart to HealthThe purpose of the study was twofold: (1) to develop and pre-test a patient-focused coronary heart disease (CHD) intervention; and (2) to perform a feasibility trial of the intervention in 200 patients. The intervention included three components that addressed decision-making and a fourth component that included a series of tailored adherence messages to address adherence barriers to patients’ chosen interventions. The pilot randomized controlled trial provided patients with information about their global CHD risk and effective risk reducing strategies to allow them to make appropriate decisions and initiate and maintain behavior (i.e., taking medication) that will result in the reduction of CHD risk. Ultimately, the study provided preliminary data for a multi-site randomized controlled trial.
