Development of a Self-Report Instrument to Assess Nutrition and Physical Activity Environments of Child Care Settings
Project Title
Development of a Self-Report Instrument to Assess Nutrition and Physical Activity Environments of Child Care Settings
Funding Dates
9/2007-8/2009
Description
The overall goal of the project was to create a self-report instrument that can be used to measure the nutrition and physical activity (PA) environment of child care settings and to provide evidence for the reliability of scores and validity of inferences from the instrument. The work built off of a previously validated instrument – the Environment and Policy Assessment and Observation (EPAO) – which used direct observation and document review. Components were modified to create a self-report measure. The resulting instrument is a resource for researchers and professionals who seek to understand the role of child care in obesity prevention and as a potential setting for promoting PA and the development of healthy weight.
