Description
Carolina Hunger Initiative (CHI) is supporting innovations that help schools and community organizations put food directly in the hands of North Carolinians who need it. It uses programming, applied research, and compelling communications to support policy, systems, and environmental changes that more readily connect people with the food they need.
- Hosting nutrition education classes and developing original nutrition education resources.
- Partnering with the NC Department of Public Instruction to promote SUN summer nutrition programs, including Meals-To-Go non-congregate meals and the SummerMeals4NCKids
- Amplifying communications for the new SUN Bucks program, also known as Summer EBT.
- Granting $1.4 million to kickstart innovative school breakfast programs.
- Serving on the leadership team for the statewide School Meals for All NC coalition.
- Launching a new SNAP outreach campaign for NC college students.
CHI’s team also works on the No Kid Hungry North Carolina project, which is a collaboration between Share Our Strength and the UNC Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention.
