The Med-South participant manual covers information, recommendations, and practical strategies for making changes in dietary and physical activity behavior. The manual highlights dietary habits common in the southeastern US and includes a physical activity section tailored to middle-aged and older individuals who lack easy access to exercise facilities. Med-South includes a major dietary focus on improving fat and carbohydrate quality and closely resembles the Mediterranean dietary pattern; thus, the name Med-South, given the focus on the southeastern US.

Accompanying the manual is a cookbook, which includes favorite Southern recipes translated into a Mediterranean style of eating. The participant manual and cookbook are available in both English and Spanish and are written at a fifth-to-sixth grade reading level.
