Beverly Garcia, MPH, Managing Director of Research and Operations, earned her MPH in Health Behavior/Health Education at the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health and has worked as a project director with the UNC Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention for over 20 years. In this capacity, she has directed research projects focusing on cardiovascular disease risk reduction and obesity prevention in low-income, underserved populations. In 2015, she transitioned into a leadership role at the Center.

As the Managing Director of Research and Operations, she works closely with the Director to provide Center-wide leadership in the development and coordination of health promotion/disease prevention research and translation initiatives. Her primary responsibilities include building organizational structures and developing processes that support a collaborative research work environment, collaborating with university and community partners to advance the Center’s mission and strengthen the infrastructure, Center reporting, and managing the Prevention Research Center cooperative agreement.

Born and raised in western North Carolina, she is a first-generation college graduate of Duke University. When she’s not working, you can find her and her husband at a sporting event for their son or at a band concert for their daughter.
