Harlyn received her PhD in Public Health Nutrition Intervention and Policy from the Gillings Global School of Public Health at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. She is a transdisciplinary nutrition lifestyle biobehavioral interventionist with training in in biochemistry, epidemiology and intervention sciences. Her interests lie at the intersections of nutrition, stress, physical activity, epigenetics, and the microbiome. She is passionate about health equity and believes that lifestyle changes made in early life can be the most effective in preventing cardiometabolic disease. For this reason, her scholarship uses a variety of methods to investigate factors integral to effective lifestyle changes. Dr. Skinner holds a Masters of Science in Biochemistry and Molecular Cellular Biology from Georgetown University and a Bachelor’s in Psychology from Yale University. She is also a proud dog mom of two.
