Dr. Regan Burney joined the UNC Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention in 2014. During her time at the Center, she has managed multiple research projects with the Children’s Healthy Weight Research group, directed by Dr. Dianne Ward. Her work has focused on assisting with the development of grants and the implementation of research funded projects that promote the health and well-being of young children and their caregivers. Additionally, she mentors undergraduate students as they work with the team and explore research, including guiding interested students through an honors thesis. Her research interests include exploring the interactions between caregiver behaviors and environments on young children’s nutrition and physical activity. Additionally, she is interested in measurement development around physical activity and nutrition environments.

Dr. Burney holds a Doctorate and Master’s of Science degree in Human Development and Family Studies from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro..
