Project Title

Expanding access to colorectal cancer screening through community pharmacies: The PharmFIT study

Funding Dates

02/01/2024 – 01/31/2029

Description

This research will study whether a pharmacy-based distribution approach can increase access to colorectal cancer screening among medically underserved populations. The research team will distribute at-home colorectal cancer fecal tests through a nationwide network of community pharmacies. The research team previously developed this model, called PharmFIT, to identify ways to make preventive cancer screening more accessible to medically underserved populations. This study will then assess whether PharmFIT is effective in not only distributing preventive cancer screening tools but also increasing use of these screening tools.

HPDP’s Dr. Alison Brenner and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center’s Dr. Parth Shah will serve as multiple principal investigators. The research team will include HPDP researchers Drs. Stephanie Wheeler and Jennifer Leeman and an interdisciplinary team at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, Eshelman School of Pharmacy, and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center.
