Over the past 12 years, Dr. Byron has used behavioral science to learn how to improve health communication to support tobacco control policies. He is currently studying public perceptions about a potential FDA policy to dramatically reduce the nicotine content in cigarettes. He is also examining how to prepare health care providers for this policy. Additionally, Dr. Byron conducts research in Indonesia on the effects of new tobacco products and policies on smoking prevalence.

Dr. Byron earned his PhD in social and behavioral sciences from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
