Project Title

Connecting Behavioral Science to COVID-19 Vaccine Demand Network

Funding Dates

05/11/2021-09/10/2022

Description

Supporting primary care professionals (PCPs) in COVID-19 vaccine delivery is critical to ending the pandemic. Patients consistently report that their PCPs are among their most trusted sources of vaccine-related information and that primary care clinics are their preferred setting for vaccine administration. Furthermore, PCPs are well-positioned to deliver evidence-based interventions to increase vaccine uptake, including patient reminder/recall and provider recommendations. However, PCPs will need support to implement these interventions quickly and effectively in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Thus, the overall purpose of this project is to provide PCPs in North Carolina with data, practice facilitation, and community engagement to increase COVID-19 vaccine confidence, uptake, and equity. In Focus Area A, this project will characterize COVID-19 vaccination coverage in North Carolina to inform quality improvement efforts in primary care. In Focus Area B, investigators will work with 18 primary care clinics to implement behavioral interventions to increase COVID-19 vaccine confidence, uptake, and equity. In Focus Area C, the project team will engage Black and Latino communities to understand how PCPs can build and maintain trust in COVID-19 vaccine delivery. The investigators will disseminate key insights to PCPs on an ongoing basis through QI coaches’ practice facilitation activities. Evaluation findings will be shared through publications and participation in the Connecting Behavioral Science to COVID-19 Vaccine Demand Network.
