Born from the Community Circles Program, Golden Journeys is a nutrition, health, and wellness program that provides opportunities for primarily older Black, rurally located women of Warren County, NC to engage in nutrition and cultural education learning experiences. Golden Journeys is focused on providing an opportunity for older women in the community to gather and socialize, along with the opportunity to learn and reflect on their histories through engagement in health and wellness activities. Programming includes Oldways’ A Taste of African Heritage nutrition education lesson, exploration and presentation of each participant’s personal genealogical histories through reflection, nature walks, visits to local farms, engagements with local community guest speakers whose expertise ranges in cooking, gardening, juicing, and other nutrition, health, and wellness activities. To learn more about the experiences of participants, please view this one-page summary that highlights the main themes in the reflective discussions we had with Golden Journeys participants in 2023.
